Erik-Nicolai-Ritzau-f-30-april-1839-d-23-december-1903PHOTOCONSORTIUM is proud to announce a new member of our network: the important Danish new agency RITZAUS BUREAU.

The long history of RITZAU starts with Lieutenant Erik Nicolai Ritzau returning home from the war in 1864, and deciding to start a Danish telegram office. In a modest local at Amagertorv in Copenhagen on January 31, 1866, at 18.54, the new born agency receives E.N. Ritzau’s first telegram, sent from Hamburg to “RITZAUS BUREAU”. The day after, the four Copenhagen newspapers published an advertisement in which the founder himself presented the “Nordic Central Bureau for Political and Mercantile Telegraph Messages.”

Since 1866, Ritzau has distributed information and produced news to Danish media, organizations and companies. Since the beginning Ritzau has shown a strong adaptability to progress and innovation, and utilized new technologies to modernize its business. It happened when the phone came to Copenhagen in 1881, when the cable writer came to Denmark in the 1930s, and when the Internet became widespread in the late 1990s.

Nowadays, Ritzau is Denmark’s largest news agency, providing news and information to all Danish newspapers, DR, TV2, many of the largest Danish companies and organizations, and a number of smaller media publishers. Ritzau offers service on all platforms to publishers, organizations, political institutions and companies. Ritzau is credible, prompt and impartial.
