Under the campaign Twin it! 3D for Europe’s culture, Ministries of Culture of EU Member States were invited to submit at least one 3D digitised heritage asset to the common European data space for cultural heritage. Twin it! collection ranges from scientific and architectural heritage, to unique portable objects, impressive statues and rock reliefs. It also encompasses exemplary samples of classical architecture, mediaeval fortresses and religious buildings. The majority of the contributions are buildings and sites, while a third are portable objects.
The collection of objects is currently displayed in a nice gallery on Europeana.eu and it will be showcased in a virtual museum, currently under development.
The results of the campaign were celebrated in a final Twin it! event on 14th May 2024, in the prestigious Berlaymont venue in Brussels. This event had three main components: a high-level conference, expert panel discussion and a Twin it! interactive exploration Fair, which presented various stories from the most valuable projects supporting the data space and 3D digital heritage. In the context of the fair, project EUreka3D presented the efforts done by partner CUT Cyprus University of Technology, to digitally preserve the historical Lambousa boat in Limassol, which resulted in a top quality 3D model produced according to the VIGIE Study 2020/654 on quality in 3D digitisation of tangible cultural heritage. The Lambousa boat is the only object in the TwinIt! collection deriving from a EU-funded project supporting the common European data soace for cultural heritage.
This effort and blog are part of the project on a common European data space for cultural heritage, for supporting reuse of digital resources and capacity building in the area of digital transformation of the education and cultural sector.
