The Conference Audiovisual Archives in Universities and Research Institutions took place at the University of North Carolina’s Louis Round Wilson Special Collections Library in Chapel Hill, N.C., USA, the 13-15 July 2015. The program addressed the increasing role that audiovisual archives play in documenting our institutions, societies, and cultures and explored the challenges posed by these archives in universities and research institutions. Over 70 people attended the Conference and some 20 presentations on standards, case studies, and research use of audiovisual collections.
Among these presentations there was the one about Audiovisual Archives and the International Council on Archives, by David Iglésias, Coordinator of the Photographic and Audiovisual Archive Group (PAAG) at the International Council on Archives (ICA) and Officer for Scientific Activities of Photoconsortium Association.
He talked about the importance for PAAG to collaborate and to be in contact with other associations and projects. One of these associations is Photoconsortium that wants to be linked to all cultural institutions with responsibilities on photographic collections. They designed one member of the Executive Council to be the link with the archives field, and more specifically with ICA-PAAG. The aim is to disseminate all the activities and accomplishments of the association to archives and also to foster any kind of collaboration.
The audience, mostly from USA universities, was really interested in Photoconsortium and we hope that some of them will become members of the association. At least, they were invited to joint it!
