Beyond borders into a new country,
Beyond the past into a new life.
How do you feel about migration? Does it concern you? What do you think motivates people to pack all their stuff and leave everything they know behind?
The exhibition “Beyond” is an exploration of why people choose to migrate and how they experience their journey. By zooming in on the story of twelve individuals, we try to give an image on migration nowadays in a first part of the exhibition. Their stories vary from fleeing from war zones to moving for love and are brought back alive through an object unbreakably linked to their path towards Belgium. Come and meet twelve personal adventures you might identify with.
In the second part of the exhibition, the focus lies on migration in older times: we chose a couple of photographs and stories that belong to the Europeana Collection and that were shown on Thousands are Sailing exhibition in Pisa in 2018.
By combining these two parts, the visitors get a unique view on migration nowadays and in the past. They can experience the similarities and differences and hopefully leave with a bigger understanding of migration throughout the years.
