After Pisa (Museo della Grafica) and Girona (Centre Cultural la Mercè), Antwerp is the third city to host the BLUE SKIES, RED PANIC photographic exhibition, realized in the framework of the 50s in Europe Kaleidoscope project.
At the premises of the KU Leuven Faculty of Economics and Flanders Business School in the historical city center, the full range of 26 outstanding pictures from partner collections and Europeana.eu shines among the pilasters and marble floors of a 17th-century building right next to the famed Carolus Borromeus church.
Running from 10 January until 7 February, the exhibition will be open during business hours – free of charge – to students, university staff, Antwerp citizens and tourists alike. A mini-guide in Dutch and a bookmark inviting visitors to continue their exploration of 1950s photographic heritage are provided on site.
The vernissage took place on 9 January 2020 in the main hall of Campus Carolus (Korte Nieuwstraat 33, 2000 Antwerp). This exhibition wants to showcase life in the fifties in its lights and shadows, including large-format photographs grouped into 11 different themes that offer a “kaleidoscopic” vision of the Europe in the fifties. BLUE SKIES, RED PANIC will be in Antwerp until the 7th of February and then will head to Berlin at the Museum of Photography, for the final event of the project on 20-21 February.
