From the curatorial effort of the EU project 1950s in Europe Kaleidoscope, every week on Friday there’s a new set of carefully selected photographs to be explored on the project’s website.
Today we present “The 1950s portfolio of Paolo Monti”.
Paolo Monti (1908-1982) is considered to be one of Italy’s greatest photographers in history. Known for his architectural and documentary photography, Monti is not one to settle for bland compositions or scenes void of character: many of his images – of which a selection from the 1950s is presented in this collection – boast an avant-garde style, with abstract compositions, unusual perspectives and post-processing effects (blurring, high-contrast black and white coloring) lending an artistic touch to even the most ordinary of scenes.
