The work of photographer Valentí Fargnoli (1885-1944) entered the Public Domain in 2025.

INSPAI, the Image Centre of the Diputació de Girona, depository of the photographer’s collection, makes the set of component images, and all of Fargnoli’s photographs in other collections and holdings held by the Centre, available to the public. In total, more than 1,600 images, including glass plates and paper copies, are available for free download through the INSPAI website and the European portal Europeana. Thanks to the collaboration with the Photoconsortium association, of which INSPAI is a member, these images have been added and shared on the European platform to disseminate and promote the photographer’s work globally..

Of Italian origin but established in Girona, Valentí Fargnoli has become one of the most important photographers of the first half of the 20th century. With his photographs, which reflect his wandering gaze, he skilfully captured the life and landscapes of the Girona regions, immortalizing times that were slipping away amidst anthropic transformations and imminent social changes. These images constitute a unique legacy and a first-rate documentary testimony for discovering and learning about the cultural heritage and visual history of the province of Girona.
