EuroClio is the European Association of History Educators with the aim to inspire and support educators to engage their students in innovative and responsible history and citizenship education. Among the initiatives, EuroClio develops collaborative educational resources that promote active learning and historical thinking, and one of these is Historiana, an online platform on which it is possible to find free historical content, ready to use learning activities, and innovative digital tools made by and for history educators across Europe.

Liaisons between PHOTOCONSORTIUM and EuroClio have already been established, and are aiming at reusing digitized photographic heritage to improve and enlarge the educational resources available for teachers and students. PHOTOCONSORTIUM is hosted with a dedicated page on Historiana, offering source collections and e-learning activities ready for use by the educators community.

Areas of collaboration agreed between EuroClio and PHOTOCONSORTIUM include:

  • To promote the role of digital cultural resources for a more modern teaching and learning practice, in the secondary and higher education, also by creating teaching and learning materials from Europeana online content, to be made available on Historiana website and on PHOTOCONSORTIUM’s Educational Portal;
  • To enhance the role of (early) photography in documenting the recent past and depicting our society and customs;
  • To underline the importance of digitizing and sharing online photographic content, for the purposes of research, education, knowledge sharing and creative reuse in innovative resources and apps;
  • To leverage digital cultural content as a means to promote and support a pan-European identity building process, and to engage students and citizens of any age with culture and cultural resources.
