Curated by Atelier Robert Doisneau – Francine Deroudille and Annette Doisneau – in collaboration with Piero Pozzi, produced by Di Chroma Photography, ViDi – Visit Different, the Museum of Graphics in Pisa is proud to host the exhibition Robert Doisneau. Pescatore di immagini. This exhibition offers the opportunity to admire, through a suggestive selection of 70 images in black and white, the creative universe of the great French photographer. In the elegant setting of the rooms of Palazzo Lanfranchi, the exhibition path opens with the self-portrait of 1949 and retraces the most cherished motifs in Doisneau, leading the visitor on an exciting walk through Paris gardens, along the Seine, through the streets of center and suburbs, bistros and art galleries in the French capital.
The favorite subjects of his photographs are, in fact, the Parisians: women, men, children, lovers, animals and their way of life in this timeless city. In the artist’s words: “The wonders of everyday life are so exciting; no director can recreate the unexpected that is found in the streets “.
One of the most famous masterpieces on display in Pisa is Le Baiser de l’Hôtel de Ville, a photo from 1950 showing a young couple kissing in front of the Paris town hall while people walk fast and distracted. In the rooms of Palazzo Lanfranchi it is also possible to admire Les pains de Picasso, in which the Spanish artist, dressed in his typical striped shirt, plays to be portrayed sitting at the kitchen table in front of some loaves of bread, with their shape, his hands.
