PHOTOCONSORTIUM President prof. Fred Truyen is candidate for the next Europeana elections for the Members Council.

The Europeana network has been evolving and is now an Association; this means it is more transparent and democratic. It also means that its members can elect the people that speak and make decisions on their behalf. These elected representatives make up the Europeana Members Council, currently a group of 30 who sit at the heart of everything Europeana does.

fred truyenFred explains his manifesto for the Members Council Election: “I strongly believe in the cultural rights of citizens to access their heritage, which I believe to be Europeana’s core mission. I would work to promote Europeana to the regional, local level, reaching out to education, archives and GLAM institutions offering local communities the empowerment to reappropriate their collective memory.”

Fred is candidate as president of PHOTOCONSORTIUM, and his main sector of expertise is Digital Humanities; while other keywords he most associates with are Archive, Education, Innovation, Creative Industry, Cultural Commons, and of course Photography.

Being a Councillor means helping create the annual Business Plan, representing the interests of the Network Association, and  wider professional network, in decision making at Europeana. Voting will begin on 8 November during the meeting of the General Assembly at the Europeana AGM. Europeana members will have a week from then to vote for up to three candidates. Voting is, of course, entirely anonymous.
